The 2nd Shift Manager is responsible for safety, quality and efficiency and the overall success of the production team on their shift. The Shift Manager must work closely with their supervisory team and plant schedulers to effectively plan, schedule, and safely coordinate production activities to organizational standards. In the role you must partner with internal departments to achieve results within customer and regulatory guidelines. This position reports to the Plant Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of daily productions putting a strong emphasis on Safety, Quality and Efficiency.
  • Assumes complete responsibility for the shift and operational performance.
  • Prioritizes food safety, people safety, and quality above everything else.
  • Actively communicate to employees the plans for the day, and future happenings.
  • Front line resource for the all employees on shift.
  • Works with Plant Manager to develop strategic plans which will drive key metrics and performance
  • Interprets, embraces and enforces company policies and procedures.
  • Mentors and develops members of the production supervisor team and foster an environment where they can grow.
  • Actively confronts under performance or behavioral issues in ways that are consistent with the company’s core values.
  • Sets and communicates clear expectations for the team and hold the team accountable.
  • Works with Sales and Customer Service to schedule orders in the most efficient manner.
  • Possesses a deep knowledge of operations, product flow, and SOPs. Utilizes this knowledge to teach and coach employees towards improvement.
  • Uses critical thinking skills to continuously improve process flow and overall efficiency.
  • Ensures staffing resources are being utilized effectively and consistently.
  • Partners with the Human Resources Department to share and address business needs.
  • Works with department leaders to maximize Safety, Quality and throughput.
  • Fosters a cultural environment that aligns with organizational values and is inclusive for all.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree (or equivalent) in Operations Management, Business Management, or Supply Chain Management is required.
  • 6+ years of relatable experience in Supervision/Management
  • Ability to lead a diverse team of support and professional staff
  • Divisional responsibility; ability to lead a large team
  • Detailed knowledge of Marathon Cheese plants and manufacturing operations
  • Strong attention to detail with effective critical thinking skills
  • Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Strong problem solving ability to make logical and well thought out decision

Work Environment

This position is in a state of the art production facility that includes many different types of machines and robotics. It is a clean, climate-controlled environment. The position is fast paced and requires a safety mind at all times. Long periods of standing and walking are required on a daily basis and you must be required to sit, climb stairs, and lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
